  • Lovely weekend

    Good morning ladies,

I hope you all had a nice weekend!! My weekend was off to a good start when I was able to leave work early Friday afternoon. I headed straight to the grocery store to pick up some food for the weekend. I then raced home and began making dinner for my bf and Caleb. Kiva was able to leave work early on Friday as well which was great because his ex's car was broken so he had to drive 2 hrs to Petawawa and then 2 hrs back to Ottawa. Originally he wouldn't have been getting in until 8:30pm but they walked in the door at 6:20pm. I made chicken legs, grilled asparagus, sautéed mushrooms and salad. It was a really nice meal. After dinner we put on a movie and snuggled on the couch until it was Caleb's bedtime.

Saturday morning I got up early with the little guy and made him some breakfast. An hour or so later my hunnie got up and we ate then. We played around the house for a bit before it was time to go see my mom for lunch. She absolutely adores Caleb so she always loves when we are able to come by for a visit. After lunch we drove around a bit looking at houses and then went to a playground in one of the areas we were exploring. Caleb is the epitome of a little boy, he loves climbing and jumping off of things. I love when the weather is nice and we are able to spend time outside. The sun was really bright but it was still a bit chilly so we didn't stay at the park too long. Kiva made us a delicious dinner (shrimp stir-fry) and then we watched a movie and hit the sack. Here are a few pictures of the cutie-pie before bed:

Sunday was another early morning. We woke up, made some eggs, turkey bacon and mixed berries for breakfast. Kiva and I both showered and then before we knew it, it was time to bring Caleb to his grandparent's house. He had a cousin's birthday party to attend so we only had him for the morning. After dropping him off we headed to the mall. I am determined to purchase some patio furniture this week but it was not meant to be yesterday. (Woohoo, I just found the table I want online and it is available at a store near my friend's house where I am going tonight, so I'm going to go pick it up and surprise my bf!). After doing some shopping, we headed home to start work on our flower bed (this term is currently far too generous because it is more like a gravel bed at the moment, you will see the pictures below and understand). We dug out about 3/4 of the gravel, we still have a small section to go and then next weekend we are hoping to buy soil, fill it and hopefully buy some plants/trees to start gardening. My dad's gf is really in to gardening and has offered to come by next weekend to help us figure out the best plants to buy based on the location, amount of sun, whether it is naturally more dry or moist, etc.

Ok, so I've been talking about our patio area for a while and I finally took a few pictures this weekend. Below are a few pictures.

It isn't anything fancy, but with some new patio furniture, greenery and some nice lighting, I think it will be awesome. I need to find some pictures of the lanterns I want to buy. We originally were going to get the lighting that you stick in the garden but I think we have no decided to go with some antique/rustic looking lanterns and use candles.

Not the best picture, but as you can see, we have dug down over a foot and just have the small section at the top of the picture to do. I can't wait to fill this with plants. I have no idea why the builders felt the need to pack it with gravel.

Here is a photo of the patio set I plan to buy:
